His first task was to urgently transform over 2 million lines of ‘C' code from IBM-AIX to HP-UX. He broke Uniplex's records by performed this 3 month task in 1 month, saving the company from the $16Million contract penalty clause. He then set up & managed a task force of 4 consultants to carry out ports to other platforms. All deadlines were met, and no penalties were applied.
His next priority was to streamline their engineering by automating the entire porting process. He successfully changed multiple 3-month manual tasks into simultaneous, automatic, overnight, tasks. The result was that new code could be built, deployed, and QA'd, all by a fully automatic, overnight, process. The developers could finish their development that evening, and the test results were waiting for the QA staff the next morning. The saving to the company was enormous, both in terms of labor costs, and in terms of time to market.
In recognition of Mr. Knight's technical & management skills, he was asked to vet the recruiting of all technical staff across the whole company, and to advise on the company's ISO9001 practices.
